Tepper Ready – a Self-guided, Online Readiness Course. Where We Were. Where We Are. Where We’re Going.

Barraclough, K., Liang, P., Telmer, C., Bird, A., & K. Henry

The Tepper School of Business is a pioneer at CMU in providing incoming MBA students with preparatory experiences that provide a strong, positive foundation for their graduate business education. These include a calculus course developed in-house consisting of online content and video conference recitation sessions, and until this year, a self-guided, online accounting tutorial based on a modified off-the-shelf product. Our experience with these preparatory learning environments, along with feedback from students and faculty, led to a decision to develop “Tepper Ready”, a self-guided, online readiness course covering foundational concepts in accounting and finance. We chose the OLI platform as the primary environment for the course. We piloted the course in late July. We will present

1.     preliminary findings related to key learning objectives, including available learning data;

2.     implications for classroom teaching and learning outcomes;

3.     project goals for iterative improvements to the existing unit; and

4.     plans for expanding coverage to other core domains in the MBA program.
